By Amy Norman

Don't sell your dog short; invest the time required for proper training. The effects will last a long time, and your dog will know what to expect from your family. By reading this article, you will begin to understand exactly why training your dog is so essential.

When a new person comes into your house, tell them exactly how they should approach your dog. This is exactly the kind of behavior that makes your dog forget his training.

If you in the crate training phase of your training program, you can use a few techniques to speed it up. To get a hesitant dog enthusiastic about getting in a crate, put a tempting treat like a fresh chew toy inside and close it up while your dog is outside. Your dog will want to get into the crate in order to eat the treat. When he finally goes into the crate to retrieve the toy, shower the dog with praise.

Watch the tone you use when you discipline your dog. Dogs can feel what they're masters are feeling. A disciplinary command is best delivered in a stern tone.

Teething can be painful which is why your puppy chews on things, so always give him a choice of chew toys to keep him from getting into trouble. Replace the item immediately with one of the dog's own chew toys. If teething is causing your dog a great of pain, give him a frozen washcloth to chew on and relieve the pain.

Anxiety is what can cause a dog to chew things up. Keeping your pup in a crate or other doggy-proofed space and providing appropriate chew toys will keep him occupied until you arrive home.

Making your dog feel secure enhances his loyalty, which will make for a better trained dog who will want to please you. When dogs feel threatened, they may display aggressive behavior. Work with your dog until he feels secure and confident. Do not throw him into experiences which he cannot handle.

For success in training your dog, it is critical that your dog remain active for his entire life. Dogs are not meant to lie around all day and do nothing. They must run and play in order to enjoy a healthy, happy life. Make sure your dog gets plenty of walks; play with it at the park, or even look into enrolling it in an agility class. Dogs get bored easily and it's your job to keep that from happening, so always provide activities to keep it moving.

Knowing what kinds of foods your dog enjoys will help you train him better. Your dog will work harder to get the food that he/she loves so much. Make note of your dog's reaction when the reward is offered. Decide on a single phrase to use when housebreaking your new puppy. Whenever you take your pet outside to use the bathroom, choose a phrase, like "go potty", so he remembers what he is there to do.

It is not uncommon for dog owners to express surprise at the simplicity of weaving dog training efforts into daily life, and how fast they achieve great outcomes. If your dog is getting on your nerves, it's time to put the above tips to use.
