Use Snake Traps To Effectively Get Rid Of Snakes

By Alan Stables

Snake traps help you keep your family safe from the fear of snakes in case your house is a host to these unwanted visitors. Snake trapping can become easy with effective traps but what is most important is to place these traps at the right locations.

For instance, snakes will often move close to the edges of houses or along various buildings. Setting a trap right against the house's walls can be a strategic location.

There are various types of snake traps, such as:

Funnel traps:

As its name indicates, this trap possesses a funnel-like shape. This let the snake enter into the trap, but does not allow it to exit. It has a single sliding door, which facilitates the release of the snake in the wilderness afterwards.

In general, a funnel trap measures approximately 8 inches (20.32 cm) high, 8 inches wide and 16 inches (40.64 cms) long. It can be used to catch snakes measuring up to 3 feet (91.44 cm). Depending on the type of snakes you are trying to catch, the trap should be located in different places. It is also important to select the right bait in the snake traps. Mice, frogs or minnows are usually good choices.

Glue boards:

Glue boards are another common type of snake traps that have non-toxic glue on the surface of the board. This glue traps the snake when it passes over the board getting stuck due to the glue. However, glue boards need to be monitored constantly as some snakes may try to shed their skin in order to escape.

Glue boards provide a more humane method to catch snakes. However, they require close supervision to ensure the safety of the snake when it is caught and released. To release it, you need to pour vegetable oil on the animal and the board. It is crucial not to use too much oil, as the snake could try to remove its skin scales and die. Make sure that you find a suitable place to set the snake free.

Since some species of snakes can be poisonous, you may want to rely on professional snake exterminators to get the job done. The traps mentioned above are all efficient, but not necessarily easy to use.

These professionals have experience and all the required traps and equipment. They know where to position the traps in strategic spots, which generates better and faster results. In the event that you do want to do it yourself, snake traps can be an effective option, but require careful manipulation.
