Giving Good Kitten Care To The Litter

If you're a first time owner of a cat that has kittens, the prospect of kitten care might be a bit scary. There are many aspects to raising kittens and the basic certainly should be learned. In most cases, the mother or queen, should have things well under control and all you will need to do is keep a close watch on things. You may also find you are more involved then planned if the mother fails to take good care of her kittens - doing things like bottle feeding and socializing the kittens.

Raising kittens is rewarding and fun but in the early days of their life, kittens are helpless and rely on good care.With good kitten care, the kittens will grow up to be smart, healthy and caring felines. Within 6 weeks you will be shocked at how fast the kittens will grow. The first weeks are crucial and it is important to know what not to do during this time.

It is hugely important that you pay attention to the kitten's diet. A lot of people simply dish out any type of food, or worse, dog food! There are specific kitten foods on the market that are designed to accomodate the growth and health of a kitten. It is a common misconception that per food manufacturers are using marketing hype and trying to get you to buy their specialist pet food. The truth is millions of dollars into research and development are spent to achieve a balanced and nutritional pet meal such as kitten food.

'Get 'em when they're young' is a saying that certainly applies to cats. It is important to bond with the kittens early on with affectionate love. The company of humans allows the kitten to be socialized and habits formed which will then enable the kitten to become a more sociable cat. Naturally, cats are very independent and there are no guarantees that the kitten becomes a home loving cat. However, any attempt to socialize you kitten and you increase the chances of a more family social cat

Kittens with toys are adorable. Certainly give your kitten toys but be sure that it is not something they may choke on and always watch a kitten if you have it playing with long pieces of wool or string as these could harm the feline if swallowed.

Just the use of a simple plastic straw is a perfect toy for a kitten. It will offer hours of amusement to the kitten and is perfect for teething on. Finding toys for a kitten is simple - just go to your local pet store or search on-line for kitten toys. If the toy is specifically designed for a kitten it will have no toxins or harmful substances in it and will not shred, thus becoming a threat to the kittens health.

Common sense and your own natural instincts will most likely take care of most issues in kitten care. But if your cat is pregnant then it is advisable to get all the information you can regarding the basics of good kitten care.
