The Importance Of African Grey Toys

By Thelma Kent

Parrots are intelligent birds and great pets. However, if you have an African Grey they require lots of attention which is not possible for those who have to go out to work. Leaving the bird alone will only make it become very unhappy, and providing suitable African grey toys is very important.

In nature these birds live in a group all the time, interacting with each other constantly. Being alone in a room, in a cage is unnatural. If you were to keep your bird in this way it will become bored, probably start plucking its feathers and may even become depressed and ill.

By putting the cage at a window, your bird can view the outside world. Let him have a view of the most activity possible, an outdoors bird feeder is a great idea. To make his life real fun though, a wide selection of accessories are a must.

Items may be met with scepticism or even fear, and though these birds are curious, they can be wary or shy. You may buy a toy in a store that looks great fun only to find your bird fears it. Some pet stores have products endorsed as acceptable to parrots, but whatever you choose, offer the new toy gently and not too forcefully.

There is no need to spend a lot of money on fun items for your bird. They delight in much of what we think of as rubbish. Plastic cups, straws and caps from bottles, big buttons, and wooden spills, bits of card or tubes offer hours of fun.

african grey toys bought in the pet stores are normally colourful, and may make noises like rattling or jingling. The products are mainly made of plastic or wood or a combination of both. Many parts can be moved up and down or rotated.
