Choosing The Perfect Dog From Cavachon Breeders

By Lance Trombly

A Cavachon puppy can be a delightful addition to your household. There are many Cavachon breeders who offer a variety of these puppies for your perusal. They are small and do well in less-than-spacious homes and apartments as well as larger homes with big backyards. They are hypoallergenic and do not shed. The dogs are a mixture of Cavalier King Charles spaniels and Bichon Frise breeds. This mixture gives pet owners the best of both breeds and helps avoid many of the health issues of the purebred parents.

They are available in a variety of colors including solid colors, black and white, sable and white, red and white and even tricolors. They usually weigh between 10 and 20 pounds and are 12 to 16 inches high. They have a lifespan of up to 12 years but some even live to be 20 years old.

Children, teens and adults will love this particular breed. They are not always so good with very small children unless they were raised with them but then very few dogs are. They make excellent companions for the elderly and very effective therapy pets.

Be sure to ask the breeder many questions about your prospective pet. Especially check into the parentage as you will want to be aware of any genetic health problems or other issues before deciding on the right dog. The bloodlines are also extremely important - check the papers provided to make sure the parents are both AKC or CKC registered. Observe the dog and pick the one that looks healthy, has a great personality and high energy, and that will fit well with your lifestyle and living circumstances.

Ask questions about any training or housebreaking routines the puppy may have been exposed to. If possible, have the breeder show you any early progress the pet may have made. Question the breeder about the dog's barking habits and if she has a habit of biting.

Diet is also a concern. Switching the dog from the food he is used to may cause some health or weight issues. If you are going to change brands or type, be sure to wean him gradually from his previous dog food to the one that you are going to feed him.

You may live across the country from the breeder and are purchasing the dog sight unseen. Ask to see a video clip of your puppy at play. Observe his energy level and social skills before making your decision. Also check on the means the breeder uses to ship the animal. It must be a safe, secure and reputable method that ensures that your new pet arrives healthy and alive.

The Cavachon makes a wonderful pet. This hybrid animal, also known as a "designer dog" has been especially bred to give pet owners the ultimate companion. These fun-loving, low-maintenance puppies may be the perfect addition to your household so research and find the Cavachon breeders that will have that special puppy for you.
