A Dog Lover's Perfect Gift-- Yummy Gourmet Dog Cookies

By Geraldine Dimarco

We all have our best friends-some of us have both the human and hound kind. If you have an amazing pet canine wouldn't you love getting a basket of delicious gourmet dog cookies? If your answer is yes then chances are that a good friend with a puppy will appreciate the same gift. Read on to find out more about these special homemade dog treats.

There is truly nothing that shows the love in your heart more than when it is made with your hands. Sure, it would mean a little bit more work on your part; but it is definitely worth the happy bark of a satisfied pet. Moreover, you can save more than a few pennies while you're at it. Opting for your own kitchen instead of the mall is always a better alternative as far as your wallet is concerned.

Now, what can we do to make that gift basket a sight to behold? As any gift giving expert will tell you, it's all about the presentation. How about stacking the cookie and tying it in a pretty ribbon, nestled in a beautifully decorated wicker basket. Remember, it may be homemade but nobody has to know that. Think out of the box and give your creativity free reign.

Of course it's good to have a great presentation; but it will be even better if the contents of the present are terrific as well. Make an effort to find a great dog treat recipe. You can find a ton of them in the internet. You have to be knowledgeable on food substances that are bad for the canine. Examples of ingredients you need to stay away from are macadamia nuts, onions, grapes, caffeine and chocolates.

If you think not having chocolates will take away the gourmet out of the cookie-you are wrong. There are several alternatives that will guarantee to make the canine's mouth water. Put a dollop or peanut butter on top of the tasty treat; or grate some cheese on top of the delectable biscuit. How about mixing up a few pieces of chopped dried apples (make sure to take out the seeds) with a sprinkling of cinnamon over it?

I can foresee only one problem now-how to keep the human friends away from the delectable delights you have just made. A lot of those fantastic gourmet dog cookies are edible and really yummy, even for us. You can actually use recipes we regularly use but again, be very careful of the ingredients that you put in that it is not toxic to canines.

Lastly, make that batch of cookies extra special by making an effort to decorate it canine style. Maybe you can use cookie molds shaped like a bone; or use a silhouette of a paw print as the cookie shape. Whatever it is, you can be sure it will bring a smile to the appreciative pet owner because of the thought you put into it.

Now after finishing this article, get up from your seat and start firing up that oven right now. These homemade dog treats are one of the best presents to give any pet owner. Expect him and his dog to greet you well next time you come over to visit.
