You will need to have the basic obedience skills such as sit, stay, lie down and come learned before you try teaching tricks like shake and roll over. Even though it is tempting just to jump to the fun stuff, having a firm grasp on the basic commands can make learning tricks much easier.

One of the commands you should teach your dog is "down". This command can be utilized in an emergency or used as the basis for teaching other behaviors. A dog that understand his "down" command will drop to the ground at once. This could be a good command when it comes to your dog's safety.

One more command you have to teach your pet dog during Italian Greyhound training is the "stay" command. When training your furry companion with "stay" command, do so in a distraction-free setting and then slowly add distractions as you go along. Dogs need a quiet place to focus until they've a certain action done well. When they have mastered a new action, having a child run past or rolling a ball past the dog helps.

The "sit" command is the easiest one for a dog to perfect. To train your pooch, hold his favorite treat just above his nose and firmly say "sit". Most dogs will instinctively sit down at this stage. Offer him the treat and don't forget to praise him profusely. If he doesn't sit, gently push his rear end towards the floor. After he has been sitting for a while, give him the treat and like before, make sure to praise him.

Consistency is imperative during Italian Greyhound training. Reinforce commands during the day and utilize the same command words or phrases at all times. There are many resources available to assist you in developing a successful training program for your canine pet. Speak with other people whose dog is the same breed as yours to get advice. Build a strategy around your dog's breed. Shortly you'll have a smarter and better behaving dog and the both of you will be much happier for it!
