If everyone could work in this field, they probably would consider it. However, in order to become a vet that specializes in the care and treatment of horses, you will be required to take various classes. All vets who specialize in this particular field must possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. To obtain this degree, you will have to go through an immense amount of schooling, where you are taught about large and small animals.

Becoming a vet is a lot harder than becoming a doctor, because the amount of schools for this training are limited. There are only twenty eight colleges that offer a vet program. Due to the limited space in these schools, there is a big possibility you will end up on a waiting list, prior to being admitted into a school.

After completing your schooling, your entry level salary may be lower than the median amount. However, as you gain experience, your salary will increase. Be aware, that a lot of individuals who choose to work in the veterinary fields, do not do it for the money, they do it because they love the animals they are given the opportunity to care for.
