Your Doctor Is Your Friend

By Adela Beasley

Anytime you go to see your doctor you generally have a little bit of anxiety. There is no need for anyone in this day and age to be worried about seeing their medical professional. The reason is if you do your homework and know what it is you are going to see the doctor about, then you should be prepared and know just what you are doing.

Once we realize this we can hopefully approach them a bit easier and get just what we need from them. What we need from them is help for whatever it is that ails us. We need them to provide us with the care and the tools that we need to fix whatever is broken with ourselves. Sometimes all this requires is a person telling another person what to do.

Too many people go to their doctor and wait for them to start telling them things. Then when they leave the office they are upset that they did not discuss this or they did not ask that. This is your job during these visits. If you do not take control of the visit then they will and that is not what is going to help you.

The patient then puts themselves at a disadvantage. If the person who is supposed to help them does not know all that is wrong they then cannot help. If they cannot help then no one will leave satisfied. A medical visit is a two-way conversation. Both persons involved need to be able to talk to one another in order to get things accomplished properly.

If we do not walk into their office with the expectation that they are some arrogant individual we might not be so worried beforehand about a conversation that has not even happened yet. We just need to know what it is that we need and what it is that is wrong with us so that we can ask for the help that we need.

Another thing that everyone should realize is that the person you are going to see is no different than you. They are a regular person with regular problems and concerns as you may have. They have relationship issues and car troubles just like the rest of us. So sometimes they might be having a rough day. If this is the case you should be able to tell, unless they are really good at hiding it.

The same applies to them as well however. They need to give you that same compassion that they deserve as a human being. In some cases they are just bad at handling people. IT is a shame but some doctors are just horrible at dealing with people.

A bedside manner is probably one of the most important aspects of the training for a doctor. Even though this is the case it is one of the things that most lack. Sometimes it is just that they are not good in dealing with people. When this is true it makes it harder for everyone involved and then everyone is anxious and usually nobody gets what they need.
