By Katrina Wheeler

If you are interested in Bengal cats for sale, here are some things you should know about these beautiful animals before choosing one to be your pet. Made as a cross-breed between the Asian leopard cat and the domestic can, they do look like small leopards, but are perfectly affectionate and friendly, just like any other cat. They can have spots or marble patterns, both equally attractive and unusual.

Their standard colors include brown, sepia, lynx, silver and mink. There are also some other possible colors, like for example blue, but they belong to non-standards. By their character, Bengals are very similar to ordinary domestics, as well as by their size, but they still look very much alike their wild ancestors, especially when it comes to their body structure.

They were first mentioned somewhere in the end of nineteenth century, but this was never officially confirmed. They were first confirmed in one Belgian magazine, in 1934. Although there are more of sixty thousands of them today, some international associations still don't accept them. These animals are quite healthy, with the exception of one recently discovered recessive disorder that causes blindness in the first year of age, fortunately very rare.

Thanks to the fact they are a cross-breed between domestic cat and a wild animal, the Asian leopard cat, they have to be our generations away from their wild ancestor before they can become someone's pet. This means that the first three generations will be used for breeding, and then they will be allowed to come to their new families. Active, intelligent and very affectionate, these lovely animals sometimes do practice different behavior than their domestic relatives.

Bengals are normally classed as brown spotted and white spotted or snow spotted, although they do come in more colors. They can be spotted or marbled, in both classes. Rosette variation of spots is especially interesting. In this case, every spot is surrounded with a dark line. Rosettes with three distinctive colors are especially appreciated.

Snow Bengals are especially attractive, and they can also be spotted or marbled. Some of them have extraordinary looking blue eyes, and others can have brown and green, or maybe gold eyes. They are divided into two groups, the blue-eyed and all the others. Two special variations, the blue eyed lynx and green or gold eyed sepia are sometimes called Snow leopard Spotteds.

Marble Bengals are especially beautiful. Their swirl shaped markings flow horizontally, and look really interesting. Ocelot patterns with horizontal flow are highly valued, and it usually appears in sepia, mink and lynx variations. Marbled pattern can also have rosettes, i two or more colors, beautifully shaped.

Although they make perfect pets, just like any other cat, Bengals are slightly larger and built more like their wild ancestors. They can reach up to fifteen pounds and they should have short hair. They look very attractive, and are quite active, comparing to their domestic relatives, and can be walked on leashes. Sometimes they love to play in water, and they can also make a really nice mess.
