Why Engaging A Mice Removal Company May Be Your Best Option

By Dave L. Weglin

Mouse infestation can be a huge headache to both domestic and commercial property owners. They can spoil large quantities of food, chew through electrical cables, and their waste matter can harbour serious disease. For these reasons, hiring a mice removal company is often the best way to deal with these troublesome rodents.

The humble house mouse is the most common species of pest mouse. Nocturnal in their habits, they can sleep up to twelve hours in a twenty-four hour period. They are seldom seen by humans, but if they are seen, this can indicate that a large number of animals is present. This is not uncommon since they breed so readily.

Females can produce large litters of pups, and several times in a year (as many as ten times, in fact). Although they have no breeding season as such, they will tend to breed more readily during the summer months when food is likely to be more abundant. Their young are born naked and helpless, but will grow rapidly and will be able to breed themselves at six to eight weeks old.

The house mouse is usually brown or light grey to black in colour, with a paler underbelly. Life for these critters is usually hard and short. Most will live no more than a year, although they may live up to two to three years under favourable conditions. They are territorial, and one dominant male will usually live with several females and young.

Mice are adept at climbing, jumping and swimming, which accounts for how well they can infiltrate properties. They prefer dark sheltered spaces, and will typically occupy under-floor areas and roof spaces. Droppings and signs of chewing and gnawing are signs that rodents are present.

Property owners should be scrupulous in their handling of foodstuffs, since this is the thing most of all that will attract rodents. Waste food should be carefully cleared up and disposed of. Food that has to be stored should be done so securely in rodent-proof containers.

Older buildings are certainly at greater risk of infestation than newer ones, although any building is a potential target for the ever-resourceful mouse. A sensible precaution is to carefully locate and fill any vulnerable cracks and holes in a building's structure. A hard filler like cement should be used, as it cannot be gnawed through.

Since rodents are shy animals, confirming their presence is not always straightforward. It can take the experience of an expert to track them down, and then eradicate them. A mice removal company can provide the necessary know-how to get the job done, both quickly and professionally.
