By Alyce Powell

Certain lifestyle factors should be taken into account when one is trying to find a type of dog that is best suited to be companion to an individual. The two should have complimentary personalities in order to optimize their compatibility. Consider shopping Havanese puppies for sale if one is interested in a toy breed that is affectionate and loving and enjoys receiving lots of cuddles and attention.

Generally considered to be one of the smartest and sturdiest of the toy breeds, these pups are tiny, but tough. Their weight can range anywhere between seven and fourteen pounds and they can reach a height of 8.5" to 10.5". Their body shape is interesting as they are a bit longer than they are tall.

With naturally long, silky fur, these dogs are beautiful, though most owners find that keeping them closely trimmed enhances the puppy look even in adults, and avoids the tendency to become matted. The coat is rather lightweight and low shed, making them perfect for allergy sufferers, and they can be many shades of cream, white, browns and blacks. The best way to describe their overall look is as distinctively distinguished yet slightly disheveled.

This breed is a bit stockily built, having a deep, barrel chest and a tail that curves up over its straight back and is plumed. Their ears are placed high on their rounded heads but hang down to the sides. Short, rectangular muzzles are accented by a little square nose and rimmed by blackened lips.

Generally, this breed does not have many health issues to speak of with the exception of age related eye problems and the occasional bought of dry skin. When cared for and well exercised, these pups have been known to live to around fifteen years of age or more. Known for their playful and active nature, there are some characteristics that one should be aware of before making a choice.

Affection is not only something these pups crave, it is a very necessary part of their lives. They enjoy being around people, playing and snuggling and receiving lots of petting and praising. Generally, they are very happy but can become a bit overly dependent on receiving attention and may tend to act out through barking and chewing if they are denied it for too long.

To cultivate their outgoing personalities and encourage confidence when meeting new people and dogs, social interaction should begin as young as possible. This breed is great at picking up new tricks and they tend to take to agility and obedience training easily, especially if food is offered as an incentive. One area owners will need a lot of patience is house breaking as this seems to be the most difficult behavior for the pups to pick up.

Even though these dogs are not at all aggressive, they consider themselves excellent watchdogs and like to announce the arrival of anyone and everyone who approaches their home. Barking is one thing that owners will need to be willing to regularly tolerate or curtail. Their sweet, lovable nature is the foremost thing most people notice when checking out Havanese puppies for sale, as that is their most dominant trait.
