Raw Food Diet For Dogs Recipes For Healthy Pets

If you want to keep your pet healthy and ensure that it thrives and is always full of energy, feed it a healthy diet. Opting for natural foods is a better option than feeding it commercially prepared foodstuff. A healthy diet will result in brighter eyes and a glossy coat for your dog within sometime. The aim of most raw food diet for dogs recipes is to come up with a protein rich diet that a dog would naturally eat if it was in the wild.

Do not give your dog too much foodstuff or too little food. If you feed it to much it will become obese. On the other hand, if you underfeed it, it may become weak and skinny. To know how much foodstuff is enough for your dog measure its weight then ensure not to give it foodstuff that weighs more than three percent of its body weight. For puppies, the weight of the foodstuff should not exceed ten percent.

Ideally, a dog should be fed two times a day. Try to have regular meal times. Allowing ample time between meal times helps in proper digestion. You can feed the dog once in the morning and once in the evening. Remember to avail drinking water for the dog.

It is advisable to vary your pet's diet and avoid feeding it the same food everyday. Buy an assortment of meats from your local butcher. This includes meat from fowls and other domesticated animals, such as cows, goats, pigs and others. Also, get cuts from various parts of the body. Organ meats, such as the liver and kidneys, are recommended as they are quite nutritious. Feed the dog one type of meat at a time, until it gets used to it, before adding other kinds of meat.

You may also consider feeding your dog some vegetables and fruits. However, this is not a must as the pets will thrive more on a protein rich diet. Even if you feed your pets vegetables and fruits, make sure that this is not a major part of their diet. To make the vegetables easier for your pets to digest, especially when it comes to puppies, steam the vegetables for a few minutes so as to soften them.

There are some foodstuff which you should avoid feeding your dog. This includes cooked bones. The bones may splinter and cause blockages in your dogs intestines. Meaty bones should be served raw and separate from other meals. It will be advisable to monitor your dog when eating bones.

To make the process of feeding your dog much more hassle free, buy the foods in advance and freeze them. Everyday, remove the required meal portions and serve your dog at the set meal times. Make an arrangement with your butcher to supply you with the meats on certain days.
