Various Methods Of Atlanta Termite Control

By Jayne Rutledge

Among the many types of pests which infest a home none of them is more dangerous like termites. Termites can single-handed destroy the foundation of your home in just a few short years. Since your home is the largest and most important investment you can make, it is necessary to take the right steps towards protecting and getting rid of these pests immediately if they have already infested your house. One can choose to hire an Atlanta termite control professional services or carry out the work on your own.

There are situations whereby, you might consider eliminating the termites by yourself. First and foremost, you should look out for infestation signs. However, it is challenging to identify signs of termite infestation. Signs that you should look for include sagging floor, woodwork holes and hollow areas on the foundation.

Once you are convinced of termites presence in your house also identify the type. Presently there are two known types of termites that are common in infesting facilities. They are subterranean and drywood termites. Drywood is mainly known to thrive in wood while subterranean termites are food in wood and also reside in soil. Both types cause damage to your apartment but subterranean causes more damage unlike the drywood so when choosing the control measures you need to know the appropriate method for each.

You can eradicate termites from your home by use of natural methods. Natural method involves setting cardboard trap. You should use wet cardboard flat strip that should be stacked on each other. The strips should be located where the termites are. The termites will infest the cardboard because they feed on cellulose that is used on it. When the cardboard has been infested, you should remove it and burn. Whenever necessary, you will repeat the method.

Beneficial nematodes are the other way that you can consider using. These are a kind of worms which are dependent on termites and other pests. You can shop for them online or in garden store which is locally available. You can start using them immediately, or you can put them in the fringe then have them planted in the morning, or after the sun goes down since UV usually causes harm to them.

One can also expose the wood to sunlight. If it is a piece of your furniture which is infested by termites, you can remove it and expose it to sunlight. Termites generally thrive in darkness so the light and heat from the sun will definitely kill them. When the sun is hot, you can place the furniture outside for several days. This method will work very well when used together with the cardboard method.

The other method involves freezing the termites until they die. The option of taking your furniture outside may not work in cases where the area experiences frequent rains. The piece of wood infested or the furniture can be placed in the freezer for a number of days. The vice in this method is that larger pieces may not fit in the freezer.

The other method is to use chemicals. This should be the last resort because chemicals can lead to poisoning. Boric acid is the main insecticide which when sprayed works by shutting down the nervous system of the termites while dehydrating it. Care should be taken when using such a chemical and it is important to involve an Atlanta termite control professional to ensure the chemical is used in a safe way.
