Find Animal Rescue Groups Around You

By Sally Delacruz

People often keep pets for their loves of animals, research or even companionship. A pet is defined as a tamed animal which is usually treated with great care and affection, fed and kept as part of a family. Unfortunately, not all animals get the chance of being taken care of or having a home. They wonder around fetching food, a place to sleep or even someone to own them. It is important to find animal rescue groups which are organizations formed to take care of abandoned animals and even put them up for adoption for people who might be interested in keeping them.

An animal rescue group is an organization that has been formed with the aim of helping these homeless, mistreated, unwanted animals . Cats and dogs are most especially victims in these case. Some people many also decide to rescue wild animals such monkeys, apes, cheetahs tame them and keep them as their pets.

These organizations are mostly formed by volunteers and most of them are often non-profitable. It should however be noted that an animal rescue group and an animal shelter are not the same. While a rescue group is an organization formed for the purpose of taking care of the homeless animals, a shelter only hosts the homeless animals brought in mostly by the rescues until someone interested in adopting them comes.

There are different types of rescue organizations and for different purposes. Some are for research; - this one may be funded by the government or by the nongovernmental organizations or just individuals. In this case, these animals are kept in different cages or rooms depending on the type of research that is to be done on them.

Another is that the staffs in shelters usually receive payments for their work while in rescue groups there is no payment since most of the people are volunteers and the funds they usually get from the donations are for the up keep of the animals.

There are many reasons why one should adopt a pet from shelters or rescues which are; you will get a healthy pet since they are checked by the veterinary before adopting. The second is you will give a lonely homeless pet a home and family, once you adopt it, it becomes part of your family. If an individual decides on adopting a dog the benefit he/she gets is that it keeps thieves or burglars away thus protecting your home.

Adopting an animal from a rescue or shelter is cheaper than buying it from other places. It will be your new friend and companion because many animals usually listen to the instructions you give them if well trained.

Animals such as dogs have been known to be very helpful to people in many ways such as helping and guiding the blind. Alerting people in case of thieves in the compound and helping the police unit in their search for criminals and many other things. So why not adopt a pet and there are many positive things they bring to us.
