What To Know About Leopard Print Dog Collars

By Harriet Porter

Currently there are many types and styles of dog collars that serve different purposes. Leopard print dog collars are like any other collars only that they are printed with marks similar to a leopard coat. They come in different types including buckle, flea, Elizabethan, stud, break-away, slip, spiked, painted, oilcloth, and reflective, and safety stretch collars. Each type serves a different purpose ranging from providing safety and security for the animal to being a beauty item.

Buckle type ribbons are readily available on the market making them the most widely used of all the other types. They get wrapped around the neck using buckles hence, their name. Together with leashes, they are applied in confining canines at a particular place. They also offer means for training, securing, and walking dogs. Buckles are secured tightly to prevent them from loosening or tightening too much. A loose attachment can free the dog while a tight one can cause strangulation.

The functions performed by flea and buckle bands are similar, except that flea ribbons have extra functionality. Besides securing, identifying, and restraining canines, they also rebuff fleas. They get made of materials that are infused with toxic chemicals that keep away fleas and insects. The chemicals work by getting absorbed into the outer layer of the skin of a dog or by releasing toxic gases. This function is important especially on dogs with wounds because insects and fleas cause infections on wounds.

Break-away collars are a safety item meant to protect the animal from possible strangulation or injury. They are mainly important on dogs that are very aggressive, restless, or playful. Restlessness can sometimes cause canines to get stuck in fences, shrubs, or kennels and if not saved on time, they may sustain injuries or get strangled. Break-away ribbons are useful in such situations because they can be easily broken when a given level of force is applied on them.

Dogs struggling under dangerous situations are freed by safety release knobs incorporated in break-away ribbons. When the band gets entangled, the buckle opens automatically. This renders the product very beneficial. Snapping the item back together makes it usable again.

A lighted or reflective collar serves the purpose of making dogs visible at night. Red and blue are the main colors although there are some of various colors too. The materials they are made from are built with light emitting diodes that produce light at night. Small batteries are used to provide power to the LEDs. To avoid making the products heavier, the batteries used are light and small in size.

Floatation ribbons are also called buoyant ribbons. They are buoyancy aids intended to help dogs to swim. Their purpose is to give the head additional buoyancy when in water, but cannot act as life preservers or life jackets. The bands are commonly used to rehabilitate injured dogs during canine hydrotherapy sessions. They may be made of foam or the fiber may be inflated with air to make them buoyant.

Modern collars go at different costs depending on a number of factors. Major factors include material, use, features, type, and the manufacturer. Most products also perform more than a single function.
