By Tammie Caldwell

One of the rarest cases to hear is the event where a dog has been bitten by another animal. This is because at most times, it is s usually this pet which is termed as the predator. However, following the many number of scenarios of dog bit by snake San Diego, it puts on emphasis on this matter to be looked into at a close range.

There is an increasing number of reported cases concerning these snake bites. Most of them usually attack the head or the neck. These may affect different systems on the body including the nervous system in severe cases which can possibly lead to the death of the animal or make it be paralyzed either on a temporary basis or for life.

In San Diego, first aid measures prescribed are that first the snake is supposed to be identified and while doing this the dog is not supposed to be left to take part in any type of motion. This is for the purpose of ensuring that other parts in the body are not affected by this venom since it spreads very fast. When this is done, then a veterinary doctor should be called right ahead.

When the doctor arrives, what is majorly done is that the animal is first immobilized to avoid the venom from spreading to other parts in the body and they are supposed to make sure that the area around the wound is thoroughly cleaned to avoid invasion of bacteria. The walking usually keeps the pet active which in other words makes the blood pump fast and consequently enhances the speed of the venom.

There are times when the pet will have lost a lot of blood in the process. At such scenarios, what is called for is blood transfusion. However, irrespective of the level of injury which has been encountered, it is always important for antibiotics to be offered to prevent bacterial infection and also painkillers to help lower the pain.

Study has shown that it is more common for dogs to be bitten by snakes as compared to other animals. This is because they are quite playful animals and they wonder everywhere hence increasing their chances of attack by snakes. Several precautions can be taken in this case as some of these cases are due to negligence.

For starters, clearing all the bushes around the house to destroy habitat for these poisonous animals is important. This is due to the fact that most of them are found in the midst of tall grasses hence individuals are not supposed to take any chances as most of the snakes find pleasure in hiding in tall grasses.

To sum up the above, in San Diego, measures can be taken such as making sure that a high level of hygiene is maintained at all times in the sense that food droppings are cleared as soon as possible to keep off rodents which in turn ensures that snakes are kept at a minimal. In addition to this, one gets to clear up the place giving these reptiles a hard time in finding a place to hide and therefore making them visible to your pets.
