Ways To Properly Breed An English Labrador

By Amy Hayes

The Labrador is a type of retriever dog. The Labrador is considered to be one of the most beautiful pups around the world and the most popular breed. They are trained to aid the blind, people who already have autism where they act as a therapy, or to perform detection and screening work for law enforcement agencies. Sometimes, they are used for hunting and sporting. They are registered in three different colors which is black, yellow and chocolate. When it concerns with English labrador breeders, individuals must choose the right kind of breed that can suit their needs.

When the puppies are at least six to eight weeks old, take them to the vet to get vaccinated. Let the veterinarian examine the pups first before taking a shot. Not getting them vaccinated would make them prone and risk for contracting dangerous diseases. Ultimately, responsible breeders always get in touch with their vets all through the procedure.

Breeding the dogs is not easy. Strict protocol should be implemented. Only breed the female between eight months and eight years of age. The females are not able to breed unless they are mature enough. During the time, they will experience the first heat cycle. This is the perfect time where the fertility cycle of the dogs is able to get pregnant. Never mate the female with a male that is older than twelve months.

Verify the canine and meet the physical standards for breeding. Only the pups that have the standard should reproduce, if not then do not bother. They come in black, chocolate and yellow. The coats should be dense, short and hard to touch. Their weights must be standard as well as height.

Consult an expert or a veterinarian to screen the dogs for hereditary medical conditions. Even though they are purebred, does not mean they are the best stocks. They may possess serious disorders that could be passed on their offspring. To verify, have them genetically screened. Many companies and organization conduct genetic screening.

Allow the vets to check and examine the female to confirm the pregnancy. The vet can identify and confirm it after three to four weeks after the mating procedure. They can confirm it by the rapid weight increased and increase appetite. They can physically examine them or use an ultrasound.

Never hide anything and talk to the vet if the female pup has complications during their first pregnancy. They will make assessments and evaluate the risk for future pregnancies which can include additional failed pregnancies and life threatening injuries. It will pose a danger even more if the dog is delivered prematurely, had a miscarriage before or suffered a prolong bleeding after the pregnancy.

Make it sure that you have maintain contact with the veterinarian in case there is a serious complication that might occur. If there is a problem, the vet can provide professional assistance. Watch out for the trembling or collapsing and extreme discomfort.

Skip a heating season between pregnancies. The female must wait for at least another season before becoming pregnant once again. The dog must recover their body needs first. Never rush or it will put more stress on their bodies and may result to complications.
