Seeking Quality Royal Standard Poodles For Sale

By Donald Snyder

The decision to adopt a dog is not one that should not be taken without some serious considerations. A person would be well-advised to learn about the breed in which they are interested, as many factors such as size, temperament, grooming requirements, health, energy levels and various personality traits can be very important factors. When seeking Royal Standard Poodles for sale, it is a good idea to know what their specific needs will be.

The American Kennel Club ranks the Poodle as the 8th most desired breed in the United States. This is contributed to factors like very high intelligence, energetic personalities, fun-loving spirits and elegantly attractive looks. They are frequently ribbon winners when placed in shows, but they make incredibly wonderful personal companions and family pets as well.

In this specific breed, Toys, Miniature, and Standards, make up the only size categories officially recognized by the AKC. Royals is a term used to describe those that are larger than one would normally expect. Sometimes called Giants, they can reach a weight of 90 pounds in adulthood, have a shoulder height of up to 28 inches, and have an average life span of up to 18 years.

These dogs have a very squared appearance when properly groomed, because their legs are proportionate to their body, making them approximately the same in length, as in height. Their heads are small and rounded with a narrow, straight muzzle, far-set, dark almond-shaped eyes, and ears that hang flat and close to the skull. They have a level top-line, a high-set tail, and small, oval shaped feet with arched toes.

One rather interesting trait attributed to this breed is that instead of fur, they have hair which may be curly and soft, or corded tightly, with both styles producing low dander and not shedding. Generally, their coloring is in solid hues of cream, apricot, cafe au lait, brown, silver, grey, white, blue, and most commonly, black. There are some dogs that come out multi-toned, and are labeled as either Mismarked, Phantom, Tuxedo, or Parti.

Anyone looking for a particularly colored puppy should understand that with this breed, their color can switch until they are 2 years old. The coats of the parents do not necessarily mean that the offspring will be the same. No matter the coloring of the sire and Dame, a solitary litter can produce pups of differing hues.

These dogs can be rather high maintenance when it comes to their grooming needs, as their hair and nails are continually growing. They are very social and active, requiring plenty of exercise and attention. This particular breed is known for its extreme intelligence and can be easily trained, though owners need to be consistent, as this also makes them prone to wanting to claim the Alpha position in a household.

There is a lot of versatility to this type of dog as they are comfortable in any type of climate and are suited for both houses and apartments. When encountering unexpected or loud noises, they will bark to protect their family, however, the breed is not an aggressive one. Being aware of the various attributes before adopting a puppy will assist in creating a smoother and more pleasant experience for all.
