Russian Toy Terrier - A Unique Breed

Toy dogs are primary utilized as companions. Instead of working for the owners, it is not uncommon for toy dogs to enslave their owners. Dog owners usually bring the pet along wherever they go but because of the size, the toy dog will be seen being carried or riding in trendy pet carrier bags. The Russian Toy Terrier is one of these pampered toy dog breeds. The Russian Toy Terrier breed which is also known as Russkiy Toy, Moscow Toy Terriera and Muscovinian Miniature Terrier is one of the toy dog breeds that is well accepted by the dog loving public not only in Russia but in other parts of the world.

Dogs have always been favored by the Russians. In fact dog ownership has become a status symbol that allows commoners to rub elbows with the aristocracy. Purebred hunting dogs are favored by the Russian aristocracy. The ladies of the royal family have their favorite dog breeds as well. During the 17th and 18th centuries owning toy dogs have become a trend. These small dogs are the favorites of royal ladies thus they were dubbed as Lady's Dogs. During that time aristocratic ladies are commonly photographed with their toy dog pets. One of the popular toy breeds during that time is the Russian Toy Terrier.

This miniature dog measures from 8 to 10 inches at the withers and commonly weighs from 3 to 6 pounds. With this kind of measurement, the Russian Toy Terrier can easily qualify as the smallest breed of dog. A Russian Toy Terrier has two variants - a smooth coated type and a long coated variant.

One type of Russian Toy Terrier has the looks of a small deer with its long but stick-like legs, small head, small muzzle, deer-like big eyes and large upstanding ears. Both the long haired and the short haired types are very similar in body structure. The only difference is the long beautiful hair on the dog's ears. Long plumes of hair make the dog's ears appear like the wings of a butterfly.

Toy dogs are wonderful pets. These toy dogs are very sweet, affectionate and loyal thus it would be very hard not to love this dogs. This toy dog is a suitable choice for an apartment dweller or for aging and less active dog owners. The dog would not need extensive exercise as even inside the home they can take care of their exercise requirements on their own. Toy dogs never fail to generate attention and owners would always be proud to have a loving and attractive pet.
