Betta Fish Care Techniques Explained

By James Conar

When you first purchase a Betta fish, you should think about proper Betta fish care techniques. Fortunately for you, this article will reveal the many ways to care for your new Betta fish. The following paragraphs will explain what is most important for your pet Betta.

If you trace Betta fish back to their origins, you will find that they have a particularly fruitful history. They come from a society that bred them to be fighter fish. This was a very cruel thing to do, so it was eventually banned. Now, you can pick them up in virtually any pet store. So let us get started on this wonderful journey into Betta care.

First off, you are going to need a large size fish tank. When you first get a Beta, they come in a small bowl. If you leave them in this bowl too long, they will become sick and most likely die. Five gallons is about the right amount of water you will want for them. You can get a good size fish tank at your local pet store. Keep in mind that you will want to avoid purchasing a plastic tank as they become hazardous to your pet.

Naturally, the world is full of dangerous predators that would just love to get a taste of your Betta. In that case, you need a high quality tank cover to ensure their safety needs are met. The next thing that would ensure the best chance of your Beta living a long life would be to keep them out of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can affect their natural environment by causing harmful bacteria to grow in the fish tank. However, a little light is needed.

The environment that your pet will be living in will determine how long they live. To ensure that they have a happy and long life, include a water heater, and water filtration system. This is because the water temperature for Betta fish should be warmer. A good temperature would be around 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. The filtration system will keep Betta diseases at bay.

Unless your pet Betta has many friends, it can be lonely for them. To keep them happy, purchase some Betta accessories. Good accessories would include rocks, plants and mirrors. Be sure to choose the safest accessories for your new Beta. Purchasing a Betta fish care guide would be a great thing as well.
