Cats like to leap on tables, climb on areas with costly knick-knacks, and anything else that may be leapt on. Screaming at your cat will not work, so you'll need to try other strategies that won't make your cat think you are angry at them generally. Here are some strategies for a technique to stop your cat's bad behaviours.
Strategies That Do Not Work
One of the best paths to know what works is to first know what doesn't work. You could think that an angry scream or clapping of hands will scare your cat away from naughty behavior, but your cat won't learn from this. Anger and loud noises to your cat do not mean a particular action they actually did is unattractive - it just means you're being annoyed and loud or sad in general. Cats don't see your anger at them as a direct link between what they are doing and your response. They need to have a more explicit response that creates a displeasing experience based on what they are doing.
Spray Bottle
Never undervalue the feline hatred of water. Have a spray bottle in different rooms with clean water in it so that if your kitty does something similar to jump on the refrigerator or kitchen table that they recognize doing these actions will lead directly to getting wet.
Lemon for Furniture
Spraying your cat with water when scratching on the furniture won't have the same effect. You need to instead use natural scents like products with lion pheromones or lemon to dissuade your cat from employing the sofa as a scratching post. Reinforcing Good Behaviour
Reward your cat and state "good kitty!" each time they use the auto scratching post. This can encourage your cat to make use of the scratching post more often and make them less sure to go some place else for claw sharpening.
