Correct bad behavior immediately. The common mistake many people make in the care for their dog is allowing bad behavior to go unchecked until it becomes a problem. Proper training of a dog involves recognizing bad behavior right away and correcting it. It is harder to correct a problem once it has grown out of proportion.

To get the best results when training your dog, you must be positive that you know what you are doing. The dog brain can easily be trained if the owner knows how to properly train them. Make sure you do your research and have a concrete approach to train your dog. It can be very useful to carry a notepad with your strategies in it, each time you take the dog out to train. It's easy to forget what you've learned, so make a habit of jotting good ideas down.

When training your dog, it is best to use one word commands so as not to confuse your pet. For example, say "sit" instead of "sit down", "stay" instead of "don't move." This way there is no chance of your canine misinterpreting what you are asking it to do. Use a firm voice when giving commands, but do not yell and frighten your animal.

To ensure a well-trained four-legged friend from the start, make sure you practice consistency in all you do once you bring your new canine companion home. This means discussing all aspects of the dog's care, needs and training with all members of your household. A dog that is getting yelled at by one family member for urinating in the house while another family member just quietly cleans up the mess serves only to confuse and frustrate the puppy. If all members of the family treat the dog uniformly, whether admonishing it or showering it with praise, the dog will learn more quickly, and all family members will have the ability to successfully command the dog with ease.

Use timing as part of your dog training methods. Use it as a form of communication with your dog. Timing is one of the main elements of teaching a canine properly. It doesn't matter what teaching methods you use, try to work at having them develop the proper timing for each method.

Socialization skills are an important part of a well-rounded training program for any canine companion. Learning to get along with adults, children and other pets makes for a happy dog that is welcome in his surroundings. Socializing your dog is easy and can be incorporated into your daily activities. An evening dog walk, trip to the park or visit to the pet store can provide a great opportunity to expose your dog to short interactions with neighbors and their pets, while getting much needed exercise and bonding time with you.

Use cheese as a treat when you are training your canine companion. Cheese is nice change of pace for your dog from packaged treats. Dogs typically love cheese and will consider it a fine treat. Do not overdo it though, cheese can have a high sodium content. Your dog could be sensitive to this.

If you are obedience training with your dog, consider training him to pass the Canine Good Citizen test. Even if your dog never takes the test itself, the requirements of the test are an excellent standard of desirable dog behavior. If he excels at the categories of study, you'll know you're in great shape.

In conclusion, dogs are a common pet for people. Dogs are playful, lovable, and make great companions. When properly trained, dogs are good pets for anyone. If you remember the advice from this article, then your dog will be properly trained and a lovable companion for you.
