By Maryellen Lamb

For many years canines have been considered mans best friend. Recently they have been viewed and accepted more as family members. They are great companions, loving, and tend to always be there when needed. After a tough day one can go home and be immediately met and cheered by their pet. Their wagging tails and cuddly disposition helps to melt away the pressures of the day and lead one to a more comfortable state. Four legged family members will protect, but they also need to be protected as well. That is why one should consider dog treats made in the USA.

All life will eventually die. The hope is usually for long lives with little pain and great contentment. This is what is desired for pets as well. There have been increasing situations where pets have gotten sick and even died from treats. The same treats that were given them as an expression of love would be the cause of their deaths. It has become clear that the suspect products have origins outside of the United States.

Illness from a dog treat can manifest in different ways. There could be diarrhea, vomiting, and failure of the kidneys. In some instances the final result is death. Before the focus was placed on suspicious treats there were little thoughts that the food was poisonous.

A probably cause could be formed from chicken, duck, or even sweet potatoes. These causes could be in the shapes and forms of strips, tenders, and jerky. There have been situations where the main portions were wrapped around fruits that are dried. No matter the differences, the truth of the matter is that all of the products were imported into America.

The root cause for the issues is still under debate. Some of the contributing factors appear to be the insufficient inspection of components that go into the food. There can also be a difference in thought when it comes to pets. It is possible that some manufacturers look at pet food treat processing as a way to make a profit with no regard to the health of the animals that would eat it.

Although it can be common in various areas, it is with clear certainty that America has stringent procedures for inspection when it pertains to food. This also includes American produced pet food. American businesses understand the intrinsic value of family pets. This standard is also stringently upheld and promoted by the federal government. With tough regulations, businesses seek to use products that can be equally safe for humans.

Consumers should be cautious when purchasing these. This is because there are some international manufacturers that are alleging their product is made in America when it is not. This is a move to boost sales. A quick check of the manufacturer through the internet can confirm their origin.

Purchasing dog treats made in the USA is a safe approach to have. In addition it is recommended that pets should be fed treats according to the manufacturers recommendations. If there are still concerns, one could look for those manufactured in smaller American shops. These tend to have an even greater quality of meat.
