Doggie Dresses Uses And Types

By Audra Olson

So many owners of furry friends have went into doggie dresses as a means of making their pup happy in public and at home. When a pup is being good or bad, there are outfits to accentuate each. Below are a few things that they can be used for in training as well as a fashion statement.

When your dog is being bad, training them to know that a meaning is behind an article of clothing can help correct the behavior. If clothing is placed on them when bad and you tell them they are bad when they wear it, they will learn to understand that action. When doing so, tell the dog they are bad and place that clothing on them every time they do that action and they know the clothing means they did something wrong. The dog then realizes that so they can avoid wearing it, they have to avoid doing the action that caused it.

To get your baby to want to wear clothes can be a bit harder, but if you let them think they earned the outfit by telling them it is pretty or handsome they will like it. This is positive reinforcement that can help when taking them on a 'bye bye' ride in the car if they like to do this. Tell them they are good after an action you want them to do regularly, and then put the clothing on him or her and they will want to do the action again so they get to wear the clothing and go on the 'bye bye' trip.

Choosing one type of clothing that is the most comfortable to them could be hard if you don't know what you are looking for. Shirts and dresses are ideal for dogs since there aren't any leg holes you need to account for. Measuring for size takes place from the nape of the neck to the last inch of spine, which is directly before the tail begins.

For most small breeds the sizes range from an extra extra small to extra large. Many teacups will wear up to a small. Regular sized babies will wear up to a large, while the huskier babies could go up to an extra large in size.

Many pet stores carry numerous designers and types of clothing for your furry babies, and can be accessorized with leashes and collars. Most of the warmer clothes will have a cutout in the top so that collars or other devices can be worn beneath with an area for you to connect the leash. It is wise to place the clothing over the top of these devices so as to keep them attached properly to your pet.

There are a few fabrics available with the different types of clothing. Woven and knit fabrics are quite popular with owners because they allow for screen printing as well as designs being made into the piece without inks being used. Many are able to be washed by hand or in the machine, so they are easy to keep clean.

If you want to get doggie dresses for your furry friend, remember the fabric will make a difference as to how it fits. If you find one that is woven, it will fit differently than one that is knit. Knit fabrics will help your animal stay warm and offers a bit more stretch than other fabrics. For more detailed fitting instructions, take your baby with you to try on the fabrics at the store.
