Turkeys might just be America's favorite bird, despite the fact that they might not be as graceful or as strikingly beautiful as some of the other species. Turkey jerky was used by some of the Native American tribes in the country, as were the turkey's eggs.

There is even some evidence that points to Benjamin Franklin wanting the turkey to be the national bird, instead of the bald eagle. Naturally, although the turkey didn't make the cut, it's still one of the most well-known birds in the country.

Hunters, especially, are fond of turkeys. Not only can they be easy to track and overtake, but their meat is tender and as large creatures, they make good trophies.
