Treat Your Dog To A Delicious Treat With Pupcakes

By Annabelle Newton

Every dog owner knows how much their pets love to eat at the human table and chow down on what their humans are eating. They also know the consequences of this when their cherished family pet becomes sick on the carpet. Pupcakes provide your dog with a treat that looks and tastes like human food, but without all the things that make them sick.

The many varieties available use many ingredients that are found in regular cupcakes. However because dogs digestive systems are much different than humans a lot of the ingredients need to be cut down significantly or taken out all together. Things like baking powder and baking soda or any other leavening agent should be used in very small amounts as they can be incredibly harmful. Most dairy products and eggs should also be used with caution and only if absolutely necessary.

Sweet treats are a great, healthy snack for your pet as long as the sugar content is kept to a minimum. Flavors like apple and pumpkin or other types of fruit are a very common choice. They can be spiced up using ginger or cinnamon.

For the icing it is important to use as little dairy as sugar as you can. Making a cream cheese or yogurt frosting can be spread thinly on the top for decoration and appearance, but don't go overboard. If you want to keep the toppings to a minimum the best route to go is by simply sprinkling a little icing sugar on top. You can get creative with this by creating different patterns and shapes.

There are several different ingredients that should under any circumstances make their way into your dogs sweet treats. The most important one to avoid is chocolate because it is very poisonous for dogs to ingest it. There are also other ingredients such as some nuts, raisins, caffeine in any form, and any sort of food coloring, that should not be used.

Savory treats are a great way to incorporate some of your pets already favorite foods into their treats. Fish and any other type of meat can be used to create great, savory pupcakes for your dog to enjoy. This is a great way to get rid of your own leftovers, so long as they have not gone bad, to give your pet a real treat that they will love. Vegetables and other savory foods can also be used. These can be spiced up with a little salt or any other type of seasoning that is safe for dogs.

When making savory treats you need to stay away from a few things that can upset your dog's digestive system. Onions, leeks, and other similar plants are very dangerous for dogs and can cause anemia. Salt in large quantities can be dangerous, so use sparingly. Any kind of fat is beneficial to your pet in small quantities but should definitely be used sparingly.

While pupcakes can be a very healthy treat for your pet they should not be given regularly. There are many ingredients that they contain that, in small quantities can be very good for your pet, in large amounts they are very bad. Do research on all of your ingredients first to find out which ones you should avoid using and which ones you need to keep to a minimum.
