5 Risky Mistakes Dog Owners Make

By David Mark

We may think we know what to do regarding our pets. We like to think that we know what to feed them, know how to take care of their health problems, and even how to discipline them. Dogs don't come with instruction manuals any more than children do. Each one is uniquely different and you will have to figure out exactly what works for them, and what doesn't.

With some help you can learn a lot. It's just like when you have children - as a parent you spend hours reading and working through situations to help a child grow better. You should do the same for your dog, so you can provide him with the best possible home and environment. You may end up making really awful mistakes otherwise.

Mistakes You Could be Making

What kind of mistakes could you be making?

Your Dog Shouldn't Walk You- Obedience training is something every dog owner should begin as early as possible, as it can prevent a number of unsatisfactory behaviours, one of which is your dog walking you. When you go for a walk with an untrained dog, you are not only putting yourself at risk, but your pup as well; he may yank your arm so hard you let go of the leash, allowing him to run out in traffic. Accidents that involve individuals being rushed to emergency rooms happen because dogs turned a routine walk into a dangerous ordeal. You do not want to be that kind.

Parasite De-worming for Dogs- Roundworms are parasites that are commonly found in dogs and can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, and other serious problems. They can easily be treated by your veterinarian, and should be. They pose a risk to your pet and they affect humans.

All About Spaying/Neutering - Spaying and neutering your dog has benefits. You don't have to worry about unwanted litters. It is a healthy pet choice. Reduce aggressive behaviours and lessen risk of testicular or breast cancer in pets this way.

Food Choices- Help your dog grow and make it stick to a healthy diet. Without considering what is in a particular food you shouldn't feed the pets. Traditional dog food often contains too many fillers and bulk, which are used to make your pet feel more full faster. These fillers contribute to weight gain and health problems in your pets. When you use natural dog food you also save your pet being hyperactive from the high sugar content of traditional food. Natural dog food is the only way to give your pet the nutrition he needs.

Good Exercise- Dogs need exercise. Most veterinarians recommend dogs receive at least a half hour of exercise each day, but the exact amount your pet needs will depend on his age, size, and breed. Respiratory problems, joint issues and even obesity is a result of avoiding exercising your dog.

Everyone makes mistakes, but there are some that are more risky than others, like when you don't train your dog or feed him natural dog food. When it comes to your dog, do the research. While he is unique, there are certain behaviours and situations you can and should be prepared for.
