Choosing a Great Cat Sitter

By Robert Baker

Did you know that 50% of households in the United States have pets? Even with our harsh economy, pet sitting companies still have strong businesses. As an owner you need to decide whether to bring your cat to a boarding facility or have someone come to your home.

If you are reading this you are most likely owned by a cat or two. As an astute owner you also know that your cat loves it's routines. You cat does not like change in his life. This can stress him out and even cause medical conditions.

Therefore, the best pet sitting for a cat can be done in their own home. Not only will staying home eliminate stress on the cat, but it lessens the fear of letting your cats be exposed to diseases, unknown environments, etc.

However, when thinking about inviting a pet sitter into your home you need to be careful and comfortable. Researching your choices is imperative.

Below is a list to get you started: * First you need to check out business practices. This gives you an idea if you can trust this person and let them into your home. * Check if the person or business is bonded and covered by insurance. Are they trained or certified to be a pet sitter? * Do they have written paperwork and contracts? * What happens if they become sick? Is there a backup person? * Are there references that you can call? * What exactly do they provide when pet sitting? o Can someone stay all night? o Can anyone give medication if needed? o Will they play and cuddle with your cat?

Choose several companies to have an in home interview. Watch how they interact with your kitties. More importantly, what does your cat think? Most social cats are a great judge of character, so if your normally cuddly kitty runs under the sofa, perhaps it is time to look at a different cat sitter.

Look for quality pet sitters in your area by searching for reputable sitters on the internet.
