Does Your Kitty Challenge Any Cat World Records

By Robert Baker

Cats are unique and superior creatures. Some cat world records are good and some are not so good. For instance, a cat survived an earthquake in Taiwan for eighty days trapped in a building.

When a cat is over thirty years old he could be a challenger for the oldest one. The average kitty lives to be between ten and fifteen. The world standard is somewhere in the middle thirties. Creme Puff in Texas was 38 and Ma of England was 34.

Himmy of Cairns, Australia weighed in at nearly 47 pounds. When a cat has a 33 inch waist, like Himmy had, there is a problem with the health of the animal and probably the food budget as well. Sadly, this cat died at the age of ten from respiratory failure. Overweight cats usually have breathing problems, so if you want your kitty to live a long and healthy life, don't feed him so much.

People get excited when their cat has kittens. Dusty, of Texas, had 420 kittens in her lifetime. In 1970, Tarawood Antigone bore a 19 kitten litter but only 15 survived.

A purring cat is soothing and has proven health benefits for people. Smokey's purr has been tested, in England, at seventy three decibels which is ten times that of a normal cat. That might not be healthy.

The most mice ever caught by one cat is 28,899. Towser was a mouser that lived at the Glenturret Distillery in the highlands of Scotland. It would be nice to know who counted all the mice. That might be a human world record.

Cats are amazing animals. The cat world records discussed here are just a few of their strange feats. They come and go as they please. It may sometimes seem that roles are reversed and they are the owners. They are wonderful companions and the most popular pets.
