You would think with a name meaning fortunate, beautiful and splendid appearance, Burmese cats would have a lot to live up to. It seems as though they are able to. Making awesome pets for families because they are so affectionate and healthy. Not many complaints are heard about this breed.

While all range between four and six kilograms in weight they have other distinguishing differences. The British form seem to follow the oriental lines more closely by retaining the triangular shaped head and having a more slender, moderate shape. The American form is rounder in appearance and has a slightly more stocky build.
Burmese are kitties known for their satiny coat with a glossy finish. With a short coat, little or no grooming is required. Only four colors are recognized for the breed including sable, blue, champagne and platinum. Sable was the only color that was seen for many years but because of selective breeding there are numerous other colors that can be found. They should maintain a good blending of color and there should be no barring or spotting seen. Breed standard eye color is a bright gold or yellow. It is very noticeable and stands out against their coat.
Differing from other cats breeds by not having a large level of independence, they can be very clingy and right under your feet. It is recommended they not be left alone for very long periods of time Burmese have been known to like car rides. A big perk of the breed is that they love human attention and do wonderfully with kids and other animals. They have been compared to dogs in many instances.
Though having a meow that is slightly more subdued and softer than a Siamese cat, they are still extremely vocal. Often being referred to as clingy, a break may need to be taken to get some alone time. They have been called the chatty Cathys of the cat world.
It seems that this breed of cat may have found the fountain of youth because they keep many kitten traits even into their adult lives. Continuing to play and learn new tricks including fetch and tag. Those adult lives last anywhere from sixteen to eighteen years with a very small chance of getting sick.
