It cannot be denied that there is a real market for small dog clothing. Many small dog owners like myself seem to have this weird need to dress up our little pups in dog clothes. I purposely say "little" pet clothing because that's precisely what I mean: clothes and costumes that are designed just for little dogs.
If you take a look through your local pet store, you'll probably find there are way more styles of sweaters and shirts and coats for smaller dogs than there are for the larger breeds. There are many times more options for cool chihuahua clothes than there are for rottweilers, for example.
And I think this is one of the reasons you see the occasional dog wearing clothes that are too small for him: the dog owner probably fell in love with a piece of clothing designed for a smaller dog, that he was unable to find in the appropriate size for his dog, and he's perhaps in denial over the fact that the adorable clothes that he loves so much are too small for his dog!
The easy way around this problem is to simply try the small dog clothing out on your dog before you buy it for her. If you buy your dog supplies at the local pet place, a lot of them will let you bring your dog in with you, and this is the perfect opportunity you can take to test out the dog clothing on your dog before you spend you money on it and find out later that it doesn't fit properly.
Now, this isn't really possible when you buy small dog clothing online, but you can still size your dog for the clothes at the local store and then use what you find out there to place your orders online for the small dog clothing you want in the proper size. This is a simple way that I've found works a lot better than guessing your dogs size when you're shopping online for some new clothes for your little dog, and if you'll just do this, you will end up wasting less time mailing back and returning dog clothing for different size ones, and more time dressing up your adorable pooch in his fashionable and properly fitting clothes!
