Effective Guide On Sugar Glider Breeding

By John Smith

The age of a young baby sugar glider is the most critical thing to be aware of when engaging on sugar glider breeding. Knowing the age helps you make better decisions such as the best time to sell them or attempt to encourage them to bond with humans. The gestation period for female sugar gliders is about fifteen days. After this, the babies climb their way to the pouch to complete their development. They attach themselves to their mother's nipple for nourishment, and stays for another two to three months.

Keep in mind, you would know when a baby is in the pouch when you can see a small puffy. Don't disturb the pouch or try to touch it because you might cause the baby to be detached from the nipple and unfortunately it won't be able to be reattached again.

What's more, another foundation for the pouch is to keep the babies warm. You should also provide a comfortable and affectionate place for the mother to stay while the babies continue to develop and grow. You should make sure the mother has plenty of water and protein in order to provide nourishment for herself and the baby as well. Possibly couple of months, the baby will now have the ability to climb out of the pouch. This can be a long process, so do not try to hurry it up by pulling on the baby. Just let nature take its course. The baby needs to keep on attaching to the mother's nipple until the very end.

After about ten days their eyes will open. This is the point in time when you can try to remove the baby from the cage for a short period of time. The baby's parents will let you know if they are all right with this. For a second time, learn by heart on not to push the baby. However, keep trying to sense them regularly as it will be good to get the baby used to human contact as soon as possible. This is the most important bonding period.

Finally, the babies become sexually mature somewhere around ten to fifteen months. For males, a sign of sexual maturity is a hairless spot on the top of their head, and then later, there would be an appearance of a bald patch on their chest. Sugar glider breeding is in fact belongs to a complicated way of nurturing exotic pets or animals, remember that there are always experts or professionals for this kind of task.
