Best Ways Of Preventing Dog Aggression Towards Other Dogs

Many pet owners wonder what if anything can be done about dog aggression towards other dogs. Luckily, there are some things that can be done. The require the pet owner to do things in a certain way and may mean a change in thinking. You will have to think more like your animal does. This is not as difficult as it may sound. You will just have to be vigilant in ensuring that one's pet remains in ones control at all times.

If you have a puppy the best thing that you can do is to prevent this from ever becoming an issue. Socialize your pup well. Take him or her with you when you go out as often as possible. Allow the puppy to interact with both humans and animals. The more the better. As they grow older, being around animals will be normal to them. There will be no thoughts of becoming aggressive because of different, dogs being in their space will be a normal thing.

Never forgo the leash. Even if you think your canine is the most well behaved on the planet. Keep the leash on. It is imperative that your animal remain under your care and control at all times. Even if it is so that your dog does not have one aggressive bone in his body, there could still be a serious consequence to not using a leash. Your pet may be the one attacked. Without a leash, it will be difficult to break them up and it will also be dangerous.

Remain calm when you see canines. Many times the owner will tense up or become frightened or agitated about what they know is coming. This in turn gets the animal even more wound up. Things quickly spiral out of control from there with human and animal feeding off the energy of one another.

Stay away from pooches belonging to someone else when you can. If you see one coming down the street towards you and your own pet is already growling or showing signs that this is not going to be a pleasant encounter, cross the street. Walk away calmly. Do not even look at the animal or owner. Do not rush and panic as you move away, just walk at your normal pace.

Respect your animal's space. One reason why animals will often fight it because one comes into the others space. This makes one animal feel cornered. Keep walking and put yourself between the two in order to allow your pet to keep its space.

Doggie cookies are a great distraction. You can distract your dog with treats to get his or her mind off the animals that are around. The cookie should be enough to get the attention back on you where it belongs. Your dog will be too concerned with getting his or her treat to bother with anything else that is going on.

While dog aggression towards other dogs is serious, as you can see, there are some things that you can do to curb it. Always be alert to potential dangerous situations so that you can keep them from escalating. Remain in control of your animal and you are less likely to encounter situations that get out of control.
