Travel Plans with Your Dog

By Allyson Westcot

Traveling with a dog outside the corner store takes the same kinds of planning and consideration that it does when you travel. Comfort and safety are paramount. You can keep your dog comfortable and safe by doing a little planning before you head out on your trip. Remember that it is usually feasible to board your dog while you're gone, or hire somebody to dog sit for you as an alternative if travel looks to be too hard.

An EzyDog harness and some other supplies can make travel with your pet trouble-free. Don't feed before journeying to avoid motion sickness, but give plenty of water.

Make some phone calls to make sure that any kind of transport you can use like an aircraft will allow your pet. Be certain your hotel is pet friendly. Discover the airline and hotel policies on pet restraints and follow the guidelines. You could need certain documentation or a carrier/create, and you will want to know that before your trip.

Be certain that your dog is up on his vaccinations and in good health before you travel. Use a leash. Have identification including a cell phone number hooked to your pet's collar or dog harness in case he becomes lost so that someone can reach you. Keep your dog's rabies tags secured to his collar or harness at all times, in case.

Also, bring your dog's regular food and some water from home or some bottled water. In the same way that your stomach can be upset by drinking local water when you travel, your dog's stomach can be upset by different water or a change in food. You can use something like EzyDog's folding dog bowls for feeding and watering in motels. You can save space in your luggage since there won't be large dishes to bring along.
