Responsible Cavachon Breeders Will Deliver Long Term Satisfaction

By Angel Dudley

Creating a mixed breed like this Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise hybrid requires special care. The process of selecting the right dogs to breed requires a lot of research and information gathering. Producing desired traits is an art. To ensure long term satisfaction with your choice, only responsible Cavachon breeders should be considered.

This small dog species has gained immense popularity very quickly. It is natural to love its appealing affectionate nature, intelligence and gentle character. Its low shedding coat is a plus. The new mix of Spaniels has a companion dog ancestry. It is not meant for being left alone for long periods. Workaholics will not be suitable owners for the playful hybrid. The desirable coat will require attention. Brushing and bathing regularly are part of the deal. The hair may grow fast. So be prepared for regular visits to the groomer. To prevent infection ears must be kept clean.

Despite its rising popularity, some people have not heard of this new species. The reason is its recent entry in the canine kingdom. It was first introduced during the 1990s. This was a period following the Wally Conron introduction of the Labradoodle hybrid. With its great success, breeders were inspired to produce a number of crosses. After he pioneered this trend, there has been a growing custom of such breeding. The result is not a mutt, but canines bred for reproducing certain wanted qualities. As crossbreeds they tend to be healthier as they have a less restricted genetic heritage.

Many breeding programs have used poodle mixes to capture a low shedding trait. In an era of rising allergies, low shedding coats have become a prized characteristic. The Bichon Frise shares this characteristic with Poodles and has Poodle and Water Spaniel ancestors. Cavachons are among a group of new so called designer dogs bred for people who want smaller dogs.

Hair color in the Cavachons tends to follow the same variations available in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed. Cavaliers only have one solid color option. This is the chestnut Ruby tone. There are also three color blends. A Blenheim has a noticeable chestnut tone separated by white coloring. A Tricolor has white and black hair with tan markings. The Black and Tan has solid black coat with tan markings. Bichons are known for their white coats. Cavaliers have a soft expression in their larger eyes. Bichons have an inquisitive expression in their smaller eyes.

It is useful to keep in mind, Wally Conron was unhappy to see disappointing offerings from irresponsible sellers. It is difficult to produce dogs that actually reflect desired traits. Test must confirm coats are nonallergenic. Screening is a vital component. Ethical breeding requires a thorough medical and physical evaluation of both parents and their genetic history to avoid unhealthy broods. A complete examination of past and present is needed to produce healthy litters. There must also be no behavioral abnormalities present.

The mixing of genes from two breeds means the puppies will not look like purebreds. Crossbreeding may produce a result that favors both breeds. Sometimes a trait will be inherited completely from one parent. Unexpected results are especially true of first generation products. In this case, a first generation tends to more closely replicate the desirable hair shedding trait.

It is important to purchase only from an ethical establishment. Conscientious Cavachon breeders take pride in developing their broods. Customers will not regret purchases from these dedicated enterprises.
