Choosing The Best Luxury Dog Crates

By Annabelle Holman

A dog crate is used for many different purposes. It should never be thought of as a cage but as a comfortable place where a pet will not be disturbed and can just relax and sleep when it wants to. The luxury dog crates available today are engineered to offer this comfort but are also attractive enough to fit in with the decor of a home.

A crate can be used for different purposes. It may be used inside the house, offering a pet a chance to be an intimate part of the household while still having its own unobtrusive, safe space. A portable one is used for traveling, such as when going to competitions. When training puppies to be alone it works as a training aid and it provides a quiet, resting place after any surgery.

When it comes to purchasing a crate, it is important to consider the dimensions. If buying one from an online store, these dimensions are clearly stated in the product description. It is no use purchasing one and then finding that it is too small. The pet must feel comfortable when lying down and stretching, sitting or standing. It should also be able to turn around without difficulty or it may feel too confined.

Materials such as wood, wicker, steel and tightly woven mesh fabric can all be used to construct these items. It does not matter what material is used as long as it is durable and safe for the pet with enough air flow. It should also be simple to keep clean, preferably with a tough, removable pan.

A recent trend is for a crate to be made of good wood like mahogany and attractively constructed so as to fit in with the furniture already in the house. It not only houses a pet but has a dual function such as a nightstand in a bedroom or an end table in a living room. This provides a great alternative to unattractive wire or plastic.

The designs being produced are incredibly versatile. They offer comfort, superb functionality and are easily cleaned. However, they do not sacrifice style. Many have solid tops and wire mesh or slat sides so that the pet can see out easily and watch what is going on in the room. Contemporary steel designs with solid tabletops fit well in modern homes and are perfect for dogs who want to chew everything.

Some owners want a crate specifically for transportation. One with pull handles and wheels is perfect for this. It is possible to get those that are made of mesh fabric that are light in weight and easy to assemble and fold down. They can even be washed on a gentle cycle in a washing machine and hung on the line to dry.

The products on the market today are designed to satisfy every need of both the pet and the owner. No longer do people have to live with unsightly creations of wire or plastic in their living rooms or bedrooms. These products are not only very comfortable for pets but are decorative too and can be chosen to compliment the style of the rest of the furniture in the house.
