4 Things You Should Consider Before Buying an Iguana

By Joe Ramon

1 - There are plenty of places to look for to buy an Iguana

Iguanas can be found in a variety of places. Your own local pet shop might hold them. An additional place to search for Iguanas is countrywide pet stores such as Petco. Nowadays , you can even buy an iguana online at websites like reptilesncritters.com and will have it brought to you by fed ex (Yikes). Sorry Canadians this company only sell in the US. You may even search for Iguanas at local reptile rescue agencies. For a start check out the Green Society's list of reptile adoption facilities at greenigsociety.org

2 - Avoid feeding Pet Iguana's with insects.

There's a parable it's advisable to add protein to the Iguana's food and to give them insects occasionally. While Iguanas may infrequently eat insects in the wild, it is important to consider is that Iguanas are herbivores and eat a diet made up of greens, veggies a few berries and a bit of fruit. You can also add to the diet some flower buds. While Iguanas can eat lettuce, feeding an Iguana a diet based only on lettuce is unhealthy. So going to the Insects, when you take home your fave Iguana, don't begin giving it all the crawling insects you locate on your back yard porch.

3 - Iguanas are pretty long creatures

Iguanas won't stay like that little pet you see in your strip mall pet shop. Full size Iguanas size and can reach between 4 - 6 feet in length. Females are slightly smaller. So when you are planning on getting an Iguana, you want to get ready for a big enclosure.

4 - Iguanas can live for a considerable time

If an Iguana is looked after well it can reach roughly 20 years. That is way more than a moggy or a dog. The key caveat here is if they are looked after. Alot of Iguanas aren't given a well balanced diet that suits them and they develop all sorts of illnesses.
