The Best Cinematic Sidekick Pets In The World Of Films

By Warren Nason

Animals have played important roles in movies for decades. There are some classics where you remember the pet as much as the rest of the cast. Some of them have inspired people around the world to name their pets after these animal stars, and you may have very well done the same at some point.

Some film makers spend weeks deliberating which animal to use in their movie. But the success of "Lemony Snicket's unfortunate Series of Events" shows that a mismatch of dogs, cats, snakes and fish also works well.

Let's now have a look at some classic movies that have animals as their leads, and are absolutely brilliant.

I would love to be able to talk to animals, but Dr Doolittle, as played by Eddie Murphy, didn't see this as such a great gift. There were 3 films in total before the series ran out of steam. Still, while Murphy was entertaining throughout the film, most people remember some of the many humorous animals that made the film so unique.

Dr Doolittle was a famous movie starring Rex Harrison, and a trilogy of films were made in recent years starring Eddie Murphy as the guy who could talk to animals, but didn't want to! Murphy's humor is great, but the animals may have stolen the show here.

A lot of animals in movies have been partners, or side kicks. We all remember Jim Carrey in the mask, and we also remember his little dog Milo, who was also a hero.

Way back in 1939, everyone wanted a little dog just like Toto. He never left Dorothy's side as she went through her great adventures in Oz, and was there when she returned to Kansas.

Computer generated imagery has made animals seem lifelike and has added to the fun. What make it better is that the movie superstars are queuing up to give these cartoon wonders a voice.
