Ways to get An Obedient Pet

By Monica Mae

You might be looking for a professional obedience instructor to train your dog if you have bought a puppy recently. But here are some tactics that you should follow to train your dog yourself.

An obedience instructor would charge from you and also call you upon to his class premises. It is better if you can save these overhead expenses and time by training your dog on your own in your household. What you need is just basic knowledge about dog training.

The first and foremost thing you need to teach to your dog is to 'sit', 'stay' and 'come'. You need to start by making him sit using different perks for him.

Make sure that you choose a quiet place for this training, so as not to distract your dog's attention. Ask the dog to sit again and again while you hold the treat over his head. Thus, he will have to turn his head up, and will sit there willingly to get the treat.

If earlier technique didn't work out well, then you need to gently push his back down and make him sit. Repeat the word 'sit' which will make him know about your command.

The second thing you need to teach your dog is to make him 'stay' at a place without giving him the directions. This half might take a bit of time and patience.

Maintain an eye contact with your dog while walking back and using the word 'stay'. Tell him 'no' if he gets up from his place. Another way of doing it is to make someone hold him back when you walk back and tell him to 'stay'. This may take some time and effort.

If he has learnt the way to stay, then check him by walking back and then tell him 'no' if he tries to follow you.

When your dog has passed this test, teach him to come. Make him stay and then call him in a cheerful voice and thump your knee as you repeat the word "come". Reward him, as he will probably respond to your call promptly enough.

The secret of dog training lies in appraisal method. You need to reward your pup whenever he follows your command. You need to behave positively and not negatively.

If you follow this process of training, you would surely be the proud owner of an obedient pet whom everybody praises.
