What Leads To Allergies?

By Beth Swanson

Almost 40 percent of the human population will suffer from allergies at some point in their lives. Itchy eyes, stuffy nose, coughing and sneezing are among the most common allergy symptoms and they can make any individual feel tired and weak. In fact, it is common for people to wonder, often out loud, if there is a possibility that they can actually avoid allergies by doing things differently. Absolutely. However, before you change your schedule to avoid allergies you may want to find out the cause of your allergy. Before jumping into anything, a little good old fashioned research and reading might help. Here are just a few of the reasons why people get allergies and what can be done to alleviate the symptoms:

Pollen, Dust, Mold and Mildew

These three are "superstars" in the world of allergies. There are different external circumstances that would determine the levels of each of the above substance. Generally speaking, high pollen levels mean a lot of people in danger of suffering from allergies. The best way to avoid these substances is to stay indoors and to dust and clean often. Should going outside be warranted, take a bath or shower the moment you get back home. This will wash off any unwanted substances like pollen or dust which may be on your clothing or your body.

Genetics

A person's genetic makeup may also be another leading trigger of allergies, even if you may not be exposed too much to dust, pollen or other common allergens. If two people are in the exact same conditions at the exact same time, one person may suffer more than the other because it is in their blood. You can thank your parents for that and there is nothing you can do to prevent this from happening.

Low Immunity to Allergies

If you do not boast of a strong immune system to ward off allergies, you may spend most, if not all of the year in anguish. Your immune system may be weak for a couple of reasons. The primary reason would be a paucity of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in your system - this would sap the strength and efficacy from your immune system, thus making it virtually useless at times against allergies, infections and viruses. Also, your immune system may be low due to mental stress. Mental stress can make you physically weak and cause your body to shut-down. Our immune system in particular, which analogously breaks down with our bodies. You will want to avoid stressful situations or circumstances, eat right and take your vitamins and minerals to beef up your immune system against allergies.

Despite what was discussed above, there really is no one definite cause of allergies, as many studies indicate different things. Allergies can be caused by one of the reasons listed above or possibly a combination of many different reasons. The importance of living healthy cannot be understated. Eating the right food, exercising regularly and sleeping no less than 6-8 hours a day (preferably 8) would give your body the best defense against allergies.
