When people first bring home their new puppy, they do not realize the importance of crate training. This article contains a number of helpful tips on crate training your new puppy that will keep both you and your pet happy for many years to come.

Be consistent. Set a schedule for your puppy. Take him out to the bathroom on regular occasions, and feed and walk him at the same time every day. Dogs thrive on consistency, and this way they are much easier to train. Always remember to offer praise when he follows the rules, and correct any mistakes that he makes.

Doggy daycare may sound like a great idea for hyperactive, distracted dogs, but it may be a serious setback to your training efforts. Your dog will need structure throughout the day. While running around and socializing with other dogs will be sure to tire him out, he will not receive the structure needed to curtail any over-the-top behavior. Consider a dog-walking service to let your dog stretch his legs during the day, instead.

Training a dog to roll over is a pretty simple task, just make sure to have a few treats handy! First, have the dog lay down. Next, hold a treat near the floor on one side of his head, slowly bring the treat up and over the dogs head to the other side. He should follow the treat with his nose, causing him to roll his whole body over. As he rolls over say out loud, "roll over." Repeat this until he rolls over with the command alone. Don't get frustrated if it takes a few tries, once he learns this trick he'll be the star of the dog park!

If your dog is constantly tempted to dig up your garden, it may be your fertilizer. Fertilizers made with manure or blood meal are intriguing to dogs and actually attract them to the area. Try replacing your fertilizer with a plant-based variety. Just be sure that whatever you choose is still safe for your dog.

Use your dogs name whenever possible but try to make sure it is only used in a positive and rewarding tone. For example "good boy Zeuss" instead of "bad dog Zeuss". This will ensure that your pet realize that it has done well and will continue to want to please its owner.

With these tips, you are ready to proceed confidently with your puppy's training. Consistency and attentiveness will win out over his unbridled impulsiveness. You want your pet to fit into your family life and become a faithful friend for many years. Following these training tips can pay off with just that result.
