Best Steps To House Training Your Puppy or Dog

By Danarius Tranum

There are a lot of dog owners who have lost hope in teaching their dogs the right manners at home and outside. But as opposed to what many people think, any dog, despite its age, can be successfully trained. Most of the times, when a dog training fails, the blame is put on the dog alone. Here are some things you will want to consider when housebreaking an older dog that will make the process much easier. But this should not really be the case since the approach that a dog owner uses in dog training is what really defines its success or failure.

Sadly, many dog owners are in denial when it comes to this. To make your dog training efforts successful, there are helpful tips that can give you the upper hand in training your dog.

Prior to the actual dog training, there are three important factors that you need to consider: patience, consistency, and implementing a good reward system. Just like humans, dogs are intelligent animals and they learn faster by constantly hearing the same commands time and again.

House training a Puppy One of the most vital factors that pet owners should consider when training their dog is the age of the animal. This necessarily applies especially to young puppies. It is because puppies are not aware of the things they should do and shouldn't do.

It is vital to consider the age of your dog when planning to house trained him. Puppies are like babies. They need guidance for them to learn the behaviors that they're expected to carry out as they grow older. They are not born with the innate knowledge on the things that they should do and shouldn't do so they should be properly guided.

Repetition is the key to successfully train a puppy. Your puppy will be able to learn the things you teach him faster if you keep repeating the same command as you take him outside. When training dogs, it is best advised to use short commands since they can learn shorter commands more easily compared to longer ones. Prefer to use short commands like:

1. Go outside 2. Go Pee 3. Let's go outside

A longer command will confuse the dogs especially the younger ones. Always use short commands every time you take your puppy outside whether to pee or to poop. Start by giving the command inside the house in a high pitch and lively voice. Any dog will respond positively to commands when their owner uses an excited voice. This will assure them that they are not being punished; instead you are commanding them to follow your orders in exchange of a lovely treat if done well.

When you have a good relationship with your dog and when both of you understand each other, commanding him will be a lot easier and faster. Just imagine how awfully sad it is to have a disobedient dog in your house. As dogs start to trust their owners, teaching them with new tricks and favorable behaviors will not be hard anymore. Having a good relationship with your dog will bring you happiness and solidarity. Nothing beats a good companion waiting for you at home.
