Important Information About An Aggressive Bulldog

A bulldog is, as most owners of the breed know, a very gentle and tender dog. For this reason, having an aggressive bulldog is a cause for alarm. Although this is common in dogs, its essential to investigate why the dog is aggressive. Signs of an aggressive bulldog may include excess barking, bearing of teeth or biting. Probable causes for such behavior include when the dog is afraid, when there is a challenge to the dog's social status or a territorial threat. An aggressive dog may be very dangerous and may cause harm to members of the public therefore such cases should be dealt with immediately.

Determining the level of the dog's aggression is among one of the first steps to be taken. Not to mention, different dogs have different temperament. What may cause one dog to bite may cause another to simply walk away or bark. A safe bet would be to know the most likely response of one's dog to certain situations so as to avoid them as a permanent solution to the problem is sought.

A veterinarian may recommend spraying or neutering one's dog especially if it has reached it maturity age. The method works by reducing hormones that result in aggressive behavior. However, if the case is severe and the dog is known to bite at any slight agitation, then a muzzle would be the best to prevent harm to anyone. This is however just a temporary solution as the root cause still has to be established.

Various dog owners have benefited from consulting an expert in animal behavior on ways and means to deal with an aggressive bulldog. These experts are well trained and have the necessary skills to utilize their knowledge of animal behavior and apply behavior modification techniques that work effectively. Many people have indeed found these methods to be very effective.

A relatively simpler approach would be to engage in gentle forms of play with the dog. This calls for extreme care and caution in the type of play that one indulges the dog in. To be more specific, one should avoid games where the dog struggles to achieve dominance as this could be a root cause of aggressive behavior.

Since the cause of aggression in a bulldog may range from various causes. It could be either simple causes or inconspicuous reasons such as a toothache. In either case, talking to a veterinarian about possible medical solutions would be the best way to go.
