Tips On How To Effectively Train Your Dog

By David Hamilton

You just got a new puppy and want to get started on training him, as young as possible. This is important to do early in your dog's life, in order to shape his personality and responsiveness. In this article, we will provide the best tips and tricks for training your puppy quickly and successfully.

When communicating with your dog your tone of voice is important. While training your dog it is important that your voice projects confidence. Your dog needs to know that you are the leader in his life. Always speak clearly and enunciate while teaching the command. Let your dog know it if they were successful by using a cheerful tone to praise them. On the other hand, you will have to use a sharp tone if your dog is misbehaving.

When training your dog, you should always give your dog only one order at a time. If you give your dog more than one command at the same time, your dog will be confused about what order it should follow. This will frustrate both of you. By giving your dog only one order at a time, it will better understand your commands which will lead to a higher success rate.

Don't force your dog to go into his crate. Instead, profusely praise him when he enters his crate on his own. Young puppies, in particular, might be somewhat afraid of the crate when it is first introduced. If you force them to enter it their fear might turn into terror. Their natural curiosity will eventually override their fear.

All dogs need daily exercise and it can be an important part of your training efforts. Daily exercise shows your dog that he is a member of the family, as well as letting him know you are a strong leader. Exercise encourages his confidence and provides you with wonderful bonding opportunities.

If you want to teach your dog tricks, but don't want to offer too many treats, then use regular dog food. By using a portion of their daily allotment of food, your dog is still receiving a reward for doing good, but is not in danger of getting too many treats.

One tip to keep in mind when training your dog is that you are also essentially testing yourself. This is important to keep in mind because if you lose your patience or get frustrated, then either you need to rethink your strategy or find someone else to take over the training.

As you begin working with your dog on their training program, make sure to pay close attention to their diet. Much like humans, a dog gets their fuel from what they eat each day. Having a diet that is not nutritionally sound can affect a dog's behavior and make training more difficult.

Use timing as part of your dog training methods. Use it as a form of communication with your dog. Timing is one of the main elements of teaching a canine properly. It doesn't matter what teaching methods you use, try to work at having them develop the proper timing for each method.

Hopefully with the knowledge you just acquired about training your dogs you're feeling more confident with ways you can do just that. The information you learned here is good but remember that there's always more to learn, so keep on the lookout for new information and apply it whenever you can and you should see results soon.
