Important Tips In The Treatment For Horse Colic

By Lana Bray

Colic is a very serious condition that occurs in stomachs of the stallion. This is something that could com about if you changed the feeding program or the type of feed or when you give it tainted food to eat. When it suffers from this problem it will be rolling down in pain and not look settled. Because you would not like to see it suffer you should look for a way that you can access treatment for horse colic.

To ensure that you give it the proper treatment for the problem it has, you should call the vet who is in your local area. By that time you will be waiting for the vet to arrive in that place you should try to think of what might have made the stallion to fall ill.

Look at it keenly as you move closer to it. Help it get up. Do not let it roll on the ground. This is because in that process an intestine can be twisted and the situation might become worse. If the pain is too much on the animal you will notice that it will not be able to stand for a long period of time. Make it be in a better position but not rolling as you wait for that vet to come.

The intestines of that animal may at times get blocked. This can be from eating something that was not fully digested. This might also make it suffer from the series diseases. The parasites that cause this are stronglyles. This is called a common one. Another thing that you can do is to practice the routine of deworming. This is the only thing that will prevent parasites.

When clearing the place you should ensure that there is no water or food that the animal was feeding on around there. This is because when such a condition happens it should not be allowed to eat any thing. Because that could do no good but worsening the condition.

Never administer any type of medication without the instruction from as vet. Pain medications may at times mask the symptoms of the disease and this might complicate the whole treatment and diagnosis. Aside from this addition of benamine to its muscles may cause clostridial abscess. This can only worsen the whole case. This medicine should be administered orally or intravenously.

When the animal doctor comes the first thing after removing the treatment materials may be moving closer to that stallion and listening to guts sounds, performing rectal examinations, monitoring vital signs and passing nasogastric tube on it. The common treatments are done with the nasogastric tube.

The nasogastric tube will alleviate the gas and also administer some medications in the process of treatment for horse colic. The light cases can be done there except for those surgery cases that should be taken to the animal hospital. Never interrupt the feeding schedule of the stallions.
