Insurance For Dog Is A Worthwhile Investment

By Jay Beckner

Because the cost of veterinary care is continuously increasing, numerous pet owners choose to purchase insurance for dog. The best time to acquire such a policy is prior to the dog reaching 5 years of age. This is because it is sometimes difficult to acquire coverage for an older dog. Comparison shopping is always a good idea before one selects a policy.

Most insurance companies set different rates for different canine breeds. This is because certain dogs are more susceptible to specific diseases than are others. Additionally, the price of such coverage depends on whether the animal has pre-existing conditions.

When comparing policies and different types of coverage, one should carefully evaluate which services are included. Most policies cover a vast array of health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, seizure, allergic reactions, bite wounds, and bone fractures. In most instances, injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents are usually covered as well.

As mentioned above, these types of policies do not generally cover dogs with pre-existing conditions. In the majority of instances, if a diagnosis of a disease or illness has been made within 3 years of the purchase of the policy, coverage will not be extended. Additionally, cancer is not covered under certain policies. This is probably due to the fact that almost 50% of older dogs perish from some type of malignancy.

When selecting a policy, it is essential not to make a hasty decision. Instead, the consumer should review all the terms and conditions of the policy with care. If the facts seem contradictory or ambiguous, the customer should seek clarification before finalizing the transaction.

Insurance for dog is a wise investment pursued by numerous pet owners. Over the past twenty years, health care for animals has undergone many technological advancements, leading to a sharp increase in the cost of such care. Fortunately, investing in the aforementioned coverage is a perfect way for canine lovers to save money and protect their pets.
