What To Know About Miniature Dachshunds For Sale

By Eliza Mendoza

Miniature Dachshunds is the name given to the mini version of the Dachshund breed, which is also referred to as hot dogs or weiner dogs. The average weight of these dogs is between eight and eleven pounds, although the smaller the dog is, the better. They normally have a height between five and seven inches. There are many breeders, organizations and businesses that have miniature Dachshunds for sale.

The breed was not developed until circa the sixteen century in the region of Germany. The name of the breed comes from two words in the German language meaning dog and badger. Before the 1990s, the smaller kinds were made exclusively for the purpose of going underground to catch smaller animals. Some mini versions were litter runts and others were made intentionally by crossing with Toy Terriers and Pinschers.

Most of the mini versions produced through this crossbreeding did not have the standard traits of the breed. Still, this continued until around 1910, when there was stricter criteria enforced for reproducing this breed. Nowadays, every coat type has its own breed to cross with in order to get prime results. That is, wire-haired dogs are crossed with the mini Schnauzer, smooth-haired dogs are crossed with mini Pinschers, and long-haired kinds are paired with Papillons.

Although this is a popular breed for a pet, there are not as many mini kinds available. Nonetheless, the animals may be sold directly from breeders, at pet stores or even at certain animal shelters. The dogs can be bought through online sellers and transported to their new home. The cost of the animals is expected to range and may be based on factors such as size and age.

The dogs are available in three main coats: wire, long and smooth. They also come in an assortment of colors, including: yellow, red, black, tan, chocolate, gray, or a combination of these colors. Their legs are short and bodies are long, allowing them to sit closer to the ground. The mini versions were created to hunt small animals above and below the ground. Dachshunds are known for having a good sense of smell that puts them above most other breeds when it comes to trailing.

Generally, these dogs are independent and high in spirit. They are smart and able to think on their own. Every animal is expected to have its own personality, so potential owners are encouraged to interact with the animal before purchasing it.

These animals are known to live comfortably in urban and rural areas. They can be extremely active and thus require frequent walks or time spent outside. They tend to live for 12 to 14 years, depending on their health and lifestyle. This breed is more susceptible to Intervertebral Disc Disease, which is often the result of obesity. The complications associated with this disease are inability to walk and move the limbs, as well as loss of bladder control.

In general, this is a beloved dog breed that is known to make a great pet. There are a lot of places and people that have miniature Dachshunds for sale. The price to purchase these dogs will vary based on many factors. Those interested should take the time to search around in their area to see what is available.
