By Annabelle Holman

Life can be hard sometimes. People sometimes need help from time to time. Getting help is a good thing to do. Many people do not want to admit that they need it, but they do. If you are pondering going through psychotherapy san Francisco has several options.

try to build trust between you and the therapist. Give it a chance to see if you can build rapport. It may take a few visits to see if you can do that. Go to your scheduled appointments and see if you care for the person there that is trying to help you. If it is not a good fit, be honest with them or tell the office manager.

be clear with them about the symptoms you are having. If you are feeling anxious or depressed tell them that. You may also be hearing voices or seeing things that other people do not see or hear. Get into as much detail as you can. They need to have this detail in order to be able to diagnose you.

be honest with the counselor. They will probably ask you a series of questions when they first meet with you so be honest and upfront. This will help them being able to treat you better and to give you a diagnosis if you want one. Some people like a diagnosis than others find that labels them too much. Decide which way is best for you and then do it that way.

take notes during your session. Have a notebook that your journal with every day about your life and then bring the same notebook to your sessions. This can be very helpful for you to not forget anything this therapist shared with you. Get into the habit of doing this. It can take several weeks to develop a habit I try to remember each time you go so you can develop this habit.

depression can lead people to do many things that are not healthy and could even be dangerous. If depression is setting in, you may need to get some medication prescribed to you. This medication may be able to lift your mood and help you function and feel better. Functioning is very important because without it you are not productive at all.

if you are depressed sure your symptoms with the therapist. Tell them exactly what is going on and how often it is going on. Tell them about your parents and your siblings and your work life. If you are experiencing a lot of stress, tell them why you think that is. Share your thoughts and experiences with them in as much detail as possible. They need to have a visual for your life.

sometimes people have a wall up to protect themselves. This is understandable and daily life but try not to have it with your counselor. It will be very hard for them to help you out if you have a wall up. This is not good so try not to do that. Take more time if needed in order to get to know them before opening up. Try not to completely shut down even though you are in pain.
