Then again, guinea pigs have sad stories, too. Most of them are used as testing creatures for drugs and products to know if those are safe for humans to use.

Guinea pigs or cavies are now popular and can be found around the world. But, originally they thrive in Andes. It is only in the 1960s, when traders from Europe discovered them and brought them to the mainstream. Currently, many organizations for animal rights are fighting for these pets. They're making campaigns against using them as source of meat and also to avoid using them as subjects of studies.

As an owner, you need to observe right precautions before buying them. You have to know if your local laws have no restrictions regarding owning of guinea pigs. If you see no problem then you can purchase a type of guinea pig that fits to be your pet. Many activists encourage people to adopt rescued or abandoned cavies to help in cutting back the nonsense selling of these cute animals.

When you already have guinea pigs, you need to focus on three things if you are grooming them. You should pay close attention to their coat, nails and teeth for these are the parts the commonly use in eating and moving. Their coats are important since these help them stay warm. Therefore, if you are buying a guinea pig for your child, you must set your mind that you are adopting another child so that you can give it love and care.

Guinea pigs are not really that hard to take care of. Just with the right food, regular and proper grooming and exercise, they can stay happy and healthy all their lives.
